The Devil Heard Poem by Randy McClave

The Devil Heard

The Devil heard me curse
As friends started treating me worse,
When money they did borrow
Which gave them joy, but brought me sorrow.
When they broke promises that they made
Even after they got paid
And it was I who was the one to do without
To them I was once truly devout.

The Devil laughed when he saw me cry
By a broken promise and a lie,
By a person who I cared for and trusted
Now with them I am truly disgusted.
Then when he heard on me they cheated
He knew that then I was defeated,
It had brought me anger and pain and strife
I would had rather been cut with a knife.

The Devil then whispered in my ear
The words that he knew that I wanted to hear,
Hate, lies, rumors and revenge
Then with those tools he wanted me to hurt and avenge.
The Devil then saw me with my head down
He thought that I was wearing a frown,
He thought that he did finally win
Until he heard me say, "Amen".
