The Dilemma Of A Biafran Child Poem by Emmanuel Joseph Olumakiss

The Dilemma Of A Biafran Child

The plight of every Biafran child has been intense hatred
And unimaginable envy birthed by different race across the globe
Her mode of dressing irritates many eyes
Her mode of eating offend not just few
Her mode of thriving is envied by all
Her beauty is admired and envied as well
She is a centre of hope to human race
The world does her no good
Did they like us?
Though in pretence they hail her craft
How about the Nigerian people?
Is true they don't like us as well
But in the real sense they hold us back
Being an Igbo is it a crime?
Though the world hear us cry
But pretend they didn't see our tears
They watch us killed
And still pretend they didn't see our blood spill
Our light they have turned into dark
Our day they refused to last
Was this part of our fate?
Made refugees in our own abode
Being a Biafran is it a crime?
It is freedom we seek not war
It is referendum we asked for not gun
That that rightfully belong to us
And that that is meant to be
When we said we want a new home different from the zoo so we don't turn out behaving like wild animals
The next day even in the house of our God we would be plundered by the gun
Does this also happen in civilised world?
There is impunity in this land
The rule of law is thrown in the bin
The head of the state does not listen to anyone
He only does what comes from his heart
And that which is not pleasing to hear
The law for the South differs from that of North
Inequality and tyranny ride us not to speak
When we say we are good in commerce they end up refusing our business to thrive
When they know we are good in science they in turn stop us from exploring the earth
When they see we are good in technology they starve our potentials to death
When the north is in or out of power it is sadness for the Biafrans
Because they leave us with no joy
When we say we want to be free there will be a total clampdown to claim our remaining life
Even when forced to stay same government deprive our smile
Is there any wrong being a Baifran?
Being an Igbo is it a crime?
