The Effect Of A Love Unreturned Poem by Karen Monroy

The Effect Of A Love Unreturned

Rating: 5.0

Pain ... Anger ... Guilt
All in a body that's been broken down.
All in the mind of a girl who a loved a boy without end.
That boy who built her up with words...
Lies that flowed from his lips like a river flows into the ocean.
Breaking down the walls she worked so hard to build.
He played the role like a pro...
Said every line perfectly capturing a heart which begged for love.
The perfect victim in the palm of his hand.
Nothing more perfect.
He didn't need to try because she would do all the trying.
A girl who loved him without any regrets.
A girl who took the blame even when she knew it wasn't her fault.
She was a girl in love with a foolish boy.
He was perfect for her.
Everything she ever dreamt of.
She smiled & laughed.
Her eyes sparkled.
She lived in those moments she was in his arms...
& died a little inside the moment he walked away.
But none of her tears could make her love him any less...
When she angered, she could never blame him...only herself.
It was as if he was faultless.
She caved, living as a ghost without a home, no longer caring.
When did that girl lose her confidence which she needs so much?
Smiles were replaced with tears, & happiness was replaced with pure loneliness.
But she held on to any & every hope that he still loved her.
She blocked everyone's warnings out...focusing only on HIM.
He was the center of her world, he was her EVERYTHING.
Put on a pedestal above everyone else.
She held on when all he did was let go.
Now she's left to fend for herself in the world unknown...
