The Empty Vessel Poem by Vera Sidhwa

The Empty Vessel

The Empty Vessel

My father, a heavy intellectual,
Had no time for me.
He was enraptured in his work you see.
I was an empty vessel.

My husband's work require all of him.
Had little time for me.
He had to be in his office you see.
I was an empty vessel.

My son moved away,
Working hard as he could,
And got married soon.
I was an empty vessel.

At a later age I found out,
That though I was empty and tired,
I could do good deeds for my fellow
Man though he might be tired too.
