The End Poem by Black Mendilouche

The End

My love was such a shining thing,
In hues of purple dressed.
His strong, warm arms encircled mine
Against his side I pressed.

Within the knowledge of that love
I knew no limits to my joy.
We shared so many happy times,
I really loved that boy.

Others saw the public man,
But I saw through his soul.
He trusted me to see his pain
I hoped to make him whole.

I'm left bereft, an empty husk,
Winnowed by the winds of change.
Understanding nothing yet
But still I wear his chain.

Hope springs eternal so they say,
But where is my hope now?
Fading with the bruises
Of the love I did bestow.

I only ever wanted him
Since first my eyes met his.
I loved him and supported him
And yet it's come to this?

To turn so cruelly from me
In my hour of need.
The actions of a wounded heart,
A selfish thing indeed.

So goodby love and farewell lust
No joy here to be found.
No tears I'll shed upon his head
While dreams lie on the ground.
