The Event Poem by Achim Wollscheid

The Event

His proposal almost drove me to sleep.
I hear his flat words barely reaching the walls.
Already, I sense that your brain is turning;
I see the smile melting from your face.
Did he say that “I do” with conviction?
I never heard such meaning so monotone.
There are not many choices, but he’s so mean.
When you first met him, what exactly did you see?
There was nothing that stood out,
He was only handsome, but his looks didn’t run so deep.
Maybe you did see his ugliness underneath;
No one could overlook the hideous inner face of him.
I wonder why you allowed him to your heart
When he threatened to ruin it.
You’d run away from him now, but you are over taken.
Front and center, he moves in for an embrace
That you cannot return with your heart fully.
It’s heartbreaking, what's causing your breath to shorten?
It is him, the cause of pain.
His proposal was shameful because it wasn’t love.
You accepted, but out of desperation.
This event almost drives me to sadness.
The words and actions are being said and done,
But they have no overall meaning.
