The Familiar Unfamiliar Road Poem by Babalola Augustine Adeola

The Familiar Unfamiliar Road

Like he said
'Two roads divide in a yellow bush
But i cannot travel them both'

But this road travelled by many is still unfamiliar
Enjoying leg movement frequently but with no path
Accessed by many route like the basket holes.

This road uniting fears
Has seen the rise and fall of many.
Even for those who conquered,
It's a mystery.

This road that must be fearfully and carefully travelled
This difiner that defines our life
Flashes a lot of benefits with no clues
No maps.

Many tried renouncing her.
Some pushed it to their end.
And those who avoided it completely,
can't imagine the miss
For the runners,
Anxiety and antcipation replace their blood

This road gave some honey with its comb
To some, it took one
To another bitter leaf
While for another, unending bitterness.
Leaving some with allegator pepper with cowries
To another allegator pepper with hunger.

It took from some,
What he gave another
It made some better than before they met
And worse too.

This familiar unfamiliar road.
Where the knot of the unknow is tied.

Please hold peace for us
Longitude of life
Children like allegator pepper and not like the mango
'Cos one eye will give no peace
Wealth like the sea sand
Clothes and not rags.
Laughter and not tears
Take our fear and give us peace.
Edua we pray you!
