The Next Victim Poem by Babalola Augustine Adeola

The Next Victim

It could be you?
God forbids.
My house dwells on the hill top.
Too high for the flood to climb.
Forget not my brother,
not for the earthquakes and volcanoes.

It could be you.
No, you know that is not possible.
I don't invest my money in stocks.
I invest in capital projects.
Forget not also that,
rain got no friend nor foe.
Same with his twin brother fire.

It could be you,
that is not justifiable.
You know i am self sufficient.
Behold! Not the air you breathe.

And may be you too.
No. We are too far from them.
They can't get here.
The suicide bomber.
Remember, not all who call you friends are your friends.

And it could be me.
Doubt, i do not welcome.
'Cos he is no respecter of anyone.
Not even with all your sophisticated aids.
He takes and no court can order him to return
and no injunction can make him spare.

He has got the best assasines
with the strenght of an explosive.
Speed faster than time. Tempering justice not with mercy.

He might be close to you.
But no one know.
Death! I fear you,
but feared God most!
