The Feet Of St. Francis Poem by Uriah Hamilton

The Feet Of St. Francis

Sometimes, humans become
like kicked dogs
living in fear and distrust.

And then there are times
when someone shows us kindness
and treats us with dignity
despite our poverty
and dirty boots.

The pope kissed the feet
of St. Francis
and the universe smiled
to be turned upside down for awhile.

Sadly, I know, I've been
disrespectful to fellow sojourners
along this spiritual path
and any unkindness is worthy of hell
but I rely on the mercy of the Lord.
