The Final Alliance Poem by Bireswar Halder

The Final Alliance

A well decorated chariot is all set to move to its destination
People in a crowded huddle, the known, the unknown - and the family gather
On the auspicious day, all start breaking down to a chorus of mourning
I wait and wonder, and feel silenced at the gloomy spectacle.

I am an octogenarian and have desire to see my beloved eagerly
I never think of a new romantic life because of a busy schedule
Nobody even advised for the same for someone I loved
As I am circled by some selfish people around me always.

Now I am calm, quiet, peaceful and in a very romantic mood
As I will have a partner who can offer me an actual meaning of life.
I am very much overjoyed over this alliance with her
She has come with lovely costumes and feel very much excited.

The atmosphere is filled with beautiful aroma of incense sticks
I am in well-dressed with sandal daubs on my forehead and bouquets
I am going to be very restless for my final destination
Today I have no fear as she is my guide to take me from darkness to light.

The chariot slowly starts moving for its final destination
People also feel lucky to witness the beautiful moment
Chanting of shlokas rends the air, the priest lights the pyre
My mortal body slowly turns into ashes for a final alliance.
