She rested on the cliff
And watched the play
The sea was in mood for games today
The ship sailed unknown
and soon facedthe storm
It was battered and bruised
And lay all torn
The mermaid rushed to the rescue
At the sea bed she found the cherished treasure
It was a prince
fair beyond measure
She raised him up
And brought him to shore
And gazed at his face
there was so much to adore
She nursed him back to life did she
Made as healthy again as can be
She left him at the water's edge
Where she could go no more
It filled her with dread
A passerby found him thus
And when he blinked
On her he focussed
Twas love he thought at first sight
The little mermaid was forgotten
Hers was a sorry plight
Heartbroken she wandered
The length of the deep blue sea
Wringing tears for eternity
Tis the tale of the sorry mermaid
Unless she ventures out of the sea
She will remain a tragedy
Try she must to fight for her rights
Only then can she be filled with delight
The end is ambiguous it could be bright
You are the mermaid make things right
