The Friend And Foe Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

The Friend And Foe

No, you can't run away from your sin,
From mirror as image,
Nor can life from life's rage,
Nor a farmer from farm
Without inviting harm,
Sin, like a foe, fiddles from within,
Like wanton self never lets you win,
Like a left and right hand,
Make self your bosom friend.

Self is man's biggest friend; self his biggest foe, as Bhagavad-Gita says. Man's biggest battle is the battle within. The outside world may appear to become increasingly hostile, yet the root cause lies within. Man's salvation also lies within. Yet, he finds it easier to look outside. It is like a man who lost something and searches under a lamp-post because there is some light there.
