The Ghetto Street Poem by hadarms dha poet

The Ghetto Street

Rating: 5.0

Waking up everyday
To some silly SHOUTS
Arguements never cease
We never stop our MOUTH

Man and woman hand in hand
Even in the NIGHT
Beside some cars some make their joint
Just to keep it TIGHT

Plays of children never stop
Even when it's LATE
Reminding you of when you're little
Playing with your MATE

So much a ghetto family life
We surely know OURSELVES
A single death in a crooked corner
That we never SHELVE

With care and love we live in joy
Hustling we STRIFE
Religions differ, culture also
Not to talk of TRIBES

Nevertheless we're trying harder
Just to keep it SAME
We fight and quarell, bite and curse
We cover up our SHAME

Have you ever needed something?
What you want is SURE
Stay in line in street and mingle
You will get it PURE

The goods, the bads, the weaks, the strongs
Struggling to THRIVE
It turns you up and smashes you down
Yet we shall SURVIVE

Tributes in kinds, greetings in slangs
Things we do UNKNOWN
In fights we help, in wars we stay
We never leave ALONE

Houses facing corresponding
To know our NEIGHBOURS
'Face me i face you' we do call it
Hoping for FAVOUR

Iya Segun, Baba Ngozi
Are people we do KNOW
Their pains and sorrows, joys and mercies
Never did they SHOW

The moon is full, the clouds are dark
The moonlight tales we SHARE
The thinly spacious verandah
Serving as the SQUARE

Segun, Bola, Ruka, Obe
Now it's time to CHEER
Waiting for the elderly man
To come and take a CHAIR

Where to feel the cool night real breeze?
You don't need to FOOT
Ready-parked cars are waiting for you
Sitting on the BOOTH

Clothes we hang on ropes and fences
Raining we usher IN
Just to keep them dry and ready
Running into our INNS

Be smart and active, brave and strong
The street is for the GUYS
Hold your pockets very firmly
Before you are DRIED

The goods, the bads, the weaks, the strongs
Struggling to THRIVE
It turns you up and smashes you down
Yet we shall SURVIVE
