The Gift Poem by Robert Longley

The Gift

It’s everything I taught you
It’s everything I know
It’s everything I hoped for
Wrapped into a bow

It’s not the dream is ending
Or even being lost
It’s just the price to ride the train
You have to pay the cost

So cherish every moment
Both joy and sorrow too
It brings about awareness
Of everything you knew

It’s this that I do give you
It’s more than what it seems
It has no form or substance
But oh so rich in dreams
