The Gift Shop Poem by Michael Walkerjohn

The Gift Shop

Symbol
of hope and
joy, and love…
respect and group
fellowship and family
consciousness lent to
birth and life and
compassion given
to the passing we
each face… community
driven continuity envisioned
lasting growth; more than a
convenience, this facility, bright
and shining; an exuberance worth
sharing… Mindset, however; of a
questioning variety. Granted, security
on its grounds is necessary, as is a
disciplined orderly intake and
service empathy, but where did
humanity and humaneness fly off to
when the ‘Board of Directors' decided
to end the services of the gift shop?
