The Great Poets Of Sliabh Luachra Poem by Francis Duggan

The Great Poets Of Sliabh Luachra

From the land of the living they may be long gone
But the great poets of Sliabh Luachra their legacies live on
They recited their verses at the crossroads near Rathmore
And their fame is even living yet far from Hibernia's shore

Aodghain O Rathaille and Eoin Ruadh O Suilleabhain literary renown they knew
Amongst the Gaelic poets of Ireland two of the exhalted few
They did not enjoy easy lives yet their legends in death grow
The pride of the great Gaelic Bards of Sliabh Luachra long ago.

The Dinneen brothers Patrick and Joseph knew of literary renown
And they became quite famous far from old Rathmore Town
The Sliabh Luachra literary icons their fame lives on today
They were such marvellous wordsmiths with words they had a way.

The last great poet of Sliabh Luachra was Ned Buckley of Knocknagree
His poems things of such beauty live to his memory
One of the poets of Sliabh Luachra their fame does not have a use by date
with the genius they were born with literary gems they did create.
