The Greats Not Me Poem by Montaha Gasir

The Greats Not Me

I look around and all I see,
Are grand figures surrounding me.
I wonder if I'll ever earn,
A place between the ones that turn,
Heads with the greatest applause.
And who's talents the crowd it draws.

Could I have a place between,
The greats that the world has seen?
Shakespeare and his renowned plays.
Achilles and his miracle ways.
Hercules and his supreme gifts.
Batman and his powerful fists.

Or am I doomed to be left covered,
With my talents undiscovered?
Fighting the feeling of being cursed.
Alexander and his dreadful thirst.
Keats and his opium delight.
Superman and his kryptonite.

I write these poems night and day,
Wondering if I'll ever sway,
The minds like the ones before,
That inspire me more and more.
Maybe when I'm in the ground,
My words will then be crowned.
