The Gulf Poem by Randy McClave

The Gulf

The great Gulf of Mexico
Was assigned male at birth don't you know,
The Dutch gave the Gulf its strong male name
Giving the Gulf it's masculine fame.
God created the Gulf as he had created a Stanley,
For centuries the Gulf of Mexico was manly.

The Gulf of America as the world can tell
She is indeed is a true female,
As Lady Liberty is fraternal
The Gulf of America they say is now maternal.
From a him the Gulf then became a her,
A new identity transition then did occur.

On the Gulf for centuries seaman sailed their ships
For their many adventures and trips,
Now the times have changed indeed
When a delusional old man changed a seed.
The Gulf is now a she many will boast and brag,
Soon the Gulf of America will be flying its rainbow flag.
