The Heart Has No Depth Perception Poem by Raj Dronamraju

The Heart Has No Depth Perception

You misjudged the distance of love
How far to the top and how far to the bottom
You roll your eyes to the ceiling and you bump your head
Failing to recognize the endless road has a definite end

When you jumped off the ledge, you discovered the ground was much further than it appeared
Aerial drag won't slow down the impetus of heartbreak
And on the way down, you have no recollection of a life together

Groaning under its own weight
The heart's dizzying calibrations and unsafe realizations
And inability to recognize the step off the curb
Stumbles into injury due to hallucinations of closeness

She should not have complimented your fashion sense
For the heart takes that only one way
Reaches for that which is out of reach
Can't grasp that intentions can exist in more than this dimension
