The Help! Poem by Robert Edgar Burns

The Help!

We went to rent a movie.
My wife wanted to see “The Help! ”
I knew this was a chick flick,
And needed to score points myself.

Baseball season has expired
For the rest of this whole year.
And Monday night football,
Was last night I reasoned here!

I could not make a single excuse
To be free from this bonding time.
And I had to give my hands a rest
From typing all these rhymes!

So I snuggled up beside her
With popcorn from a bag.
Before the movie finished,
My facial skin had sagged!

I should have known first and foremost,
Every woman needs a heartfelt cry!
Especially when the soundtrack
Has a song sung by Mary J. Blige!

The movie was eye opening,
If one could see through constant tears.
But please let this be our secret,
Known only to folks who stop by here!
