The Hollow Place Poem by DAVID TERRY

The Hollow Place

I miss you so much it hurts
We’ve backed away before
In fits and spurts
This time is different and the wounds are fresh, unhealed
Because something has changed and our love has been repealed

Breathing in and breathing out seems best for this lone man
I struggle and gasp, and laboring over every one
Is perhaps the best I can
I deleted your pictures, your messages, your words and all letters
Believing all the lies that time would make this better

It feels like there is something missing inside of me
A hollow place where only you once lived
And could see
Though my head told me this was the right thing to do
I feel so barren and lonely with my heart emptied of you
