The Homeless As I Know It Poem by Timothy Long

The Homeless As I Know It

I've been stranded, alone and scared
For three long years, I've been unprepared
Homeless and lost, without a place
My soul has been a constant race

Each night I find a different spot
To lay my head, it's all I've got
No roof above, no bed to call my own
In this dark world, I feel so alone

I've begged for food, I've begged for change
But no one looks, no one sees my pain
They pass me by, like I'm not there
As if my life isn't worth a care

The weight of my struggles, crushing my soul
Every day feels like a gaping black hole
I'm tired of fighting, I'm tired of tears
Living on the streets, for three long years

The constant thoughts of ending it all
Echo in my mind, a never ending call
To just give up, and be finally free
From this hell that's become my reality

The nights are the hardest, when darkness falls
I feel so small, like I don't matter at all
And in those moments, I think of the end
A way to escape, a way to transcend

But then I remember, the ones who care
The ones who see me, the ones who dare
To offer a hand, to lend a friend
To show me love, and help me mend

So I'll keep on fighting, against the pain
For the ones who love me, for them I'll remain
I won't give up, I'll keep holding on
For I am more than just a homeless pawn

So if you see me, walking the streets
Please don't ignore me, please don't retreat
A kind word, a smile, is all it takes
To make me feel human, to make me awake

For I may be homeless, but I am still here
Still fighting, still holding on with fear
But with your help, I can keep on going
And maybe one day, my story will be worth knowing.
