The summer is over, the hot days past
And the cool fruitful autumn is here
Remembering now those long sultry days
When lying dozily on the grass
Looking up at the meanest wisps of clouds
Sketched against the impossible blue
And the sea was so flat, that it merely licked the sand
It didn't rain in all those weeks
Everything, not only plants, cried out for water
You couldn't sleep for the heat in the night
In spite of having all the windows open
There wasn't one relieving breath of air
So you arose groggy eyed the next morning
Yes, the summer is over at last
But those of you who miss it
I say, don't be sorry, look forward
In just a few short weeks
It'll be time for Christmas cheer.
