The Human Elgin Botanical Garden Poem by Erin Bryce

The Human Elgin Botanical Garden

Dear deceased Alexander has reached the end of the game
The bullet of anger and spite and maliciousness
‘Tis a nauseating pity that I was forced to bear witness
This world the future of this country will never be the same

‘Tis surely a misfortune and an intolerable shame
That that bullet Hamilton’s abdomen tore so vicious.
Hamilton fired the same and purposefully did miss,
That Aaron Burr still lives is truly a defame

Thorough the lower abdominal torso, off the third false rib, and into the Lumbar vertebrae
After only a disagreement or two did it really have to come to such?
Why is it that honor is so important for one to die for it?

Curse both their wrecked pasts for making it end this way
Alex’s father leaving, Burr’s parents dying and the uncle who beat him too much
Doctor or man I am nothing in compare to either of their merit
