The Human Race Poem by Ray Hansell

The Human Race

I'm a member of the human race
What a race it's been
I'm not sure where I'm going
Don't even know if I'll ever win

Sixty-six years I've been in this race
Just when I think I'm starting to gain
Life presents another uphill climb
On and on I push through pleasure and pain

I sometimes think it's just a test
To see how much I can handle
At times it causes me to melt down
Just like a burning candle

Just when I think nothing else can go wrong
Another problem hits me in the face
I feel everyone is waiting to judge me
Will I handle it with honor and grace

I'm a member of the human race
And I'm here to say
Being a member of the human race
I wouldn't want it any other way
