The Humiliation Of The Sentimentalist Poem by Raj Dronamraju

The Humiliation Of The Sentimentalist

Single moments have no value
If held too tightly by a person, they will weigh that person down
Pulling them through the depths of drowsy self-love and self-defeating fathoms where every future holds pessimism

Horsewhip the sentimentalist
Pull down their pants in a public place
Force them to drink down great gulps of present day America

The bleary eyed unisex people live in the past
They watch TV shows in their heads
And they cry at the same pre-rehearsed points
And they laugh at others

Call out the sentimentalist
Tell them how worthless the past they bank on is
Tell them what they're missing and then tease them unmercifully
Rub their nose in the fact they are no longer young
Burn their pictures of kittens and babies and high school life 25 years ago
Make them wear a sign around their neck and the sign says "now"
