The Indian Rasas In The Waste Land Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

The Indian Rasas In The Waste Land

What rasa is it in The Waste Land,
How the calm, composure and clamour of it,
How the commotion and impact of it?
How the relish, flavor and taste
Appearing to be?

Bibhatsha is the landscapic scenery
Of the waste land, the barren land
Deserted and devastated in the trail
Of devastation brought by the Great War,
The world turned into a rubble

Impacting karuna rasa, pity, self-pity
From the miserable conditions,
Evoking pity, pity, self-pity
Making life tedious and troublesome
To survive and sustain

But through bhakti, devotion,
Piety and purity of heart
The soul invoking gods and goddesses
To the granting of prayers
For rains, food, harvest, bliss

And the clouds gathering over Himavant
To burst upon and to rain,
Bibhatsa and bhyankara scene
Of storm gathering, black cloud hanging over
To lightening to rains

And after da, data, dayadhyam, damyata
To om shnatih shantih shantih,
Leaving it all to the shantam rasa,
Laying it all to rest,
Keeping the things unruffled

Bibhatsa situation, adbhut scene,
Adbhut, peculiar, strange,
Aghast, appalled to see
What it has befallen,
Befallen upon mankind,

Bibhatsa, bibhatsa, horrible,
Horrible and terrible,
Uncontrollable the situation,
Unseeable, unviewable
Evoking terror, terror and pity

How the fate of his,
Bibhatsa the fate of mankind,
Adbhut the situation,
Strange full of awe, wonder
And astonishment!
