The Islanders Are The Best Poem by Kevin Bear Bryant

The Islanders Are The Best

Rating: 5.0

When we entered the National Hockey League
we were nobodies.
We were considered a joke
but all that changed with two men.

One had a mustache and was a playmaker
The other was a scoring speedster.

One was named Bryan Trottier
the other was Mike Bossy

They made the crowd at Nassau Coliseum
get up on there feet
They made Long Island
believe in the big shiny cup.

With a hothead netminder
and great chemistry
We made history
and made teams suffer.

Bryan set up the plays
Bossy scored the goals
Both are hall-of-famers
and both have retired numbers.

We won the Stanley Cup
four striaght years
We did it with grace
and with blunt force.

The city was proud
we showed the Rangers
that a team only eight years in existence
could make history

The rangers haven't sniffed the cup since 1940
yet the new Islanders sniffed the cup four times
before the rangers could sniff again.

We still play at the Nassau Coliseum
but the team on the ice
is as determined as the men of the early 80s.

Ted Nolan has the grit and determination
that Bossy and Trottier did in 1980.
