The Journey Poem by Roberto Echanes

The Journey

I began my journey on this train eons of years ago,
and met so many eyes, so many hands, that gave me
hope to traverse to distant lands. And met so many,
so many lovely creatures that built such rainbows of
peace. Was I looking for answers…but could not
find answers to those questions: who am I and what’s
the goal of life?

In the past, we met, you and I
and we loved, and our life just passed us by,
and you withered my sweet blossom,
and I lost you through time.
You became my shining star, brighter than others,
my muse, my holy lady, O my sweet Beatrice!

And my journey began, along those tracks
travelling in that mystery train, eons and eons
through space and time to a distant land.
And I arrived to a station where divine light
was waiting, and, He said: ‘Go on my son,
I’m always with you! ’ I passed through to continue
my journey to another distant land.

Faces, different faces, eyes that fixed their gaze on me.
They were eyes that saw without seeing. Ears that heard
without hearing. And there were you, my lotus divine!
From our distant past you recognized
me, and I had eyes but couldn’t see, until I realized
that you are the one, and my heart was full
of bliss and joy and I loved you because I knew
you are the one, my muse.
But again you came so late
to me. Why did you come so late?
Love’s so sweet, and so painful. You may not
understand that it’s just love, pure and simple love
and nothing more, beyond this mortal frame.
And in the end we’ll have to separate
For ever say, ‘goodbye’, no longer can we stay
together. New dawn has come and we must depart
for ever…
Love is an ever-fixed mark, for ever, goodbye my love…goodbye…
