The Keeper Of The Gate / Portal / Entry / Bifröst Poem by Gert Strydom

The Keeper Of The Gate / Portal / Entry / Bifröst

"You must realise, however, that in the last days
difficult times will come. People will be lovers
of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant,
abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful,
unholy, unfeeling, uncooperative, slanderous,
degenerate, brutal, hateful of what is good,
traitors, reckless, conceited and lovers of pleasure
rather than lovers of God. They will hold an outward form
of godliness but deny its power. Stay away from such people."
2 Timothy 3: 1-5

"Gentle words bring life and health;
a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit."
Proverbs 15: 4
"Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
and those that love it will eat its fruit."
Proverbs 18: 21
"Poetry is a sword of lightning,
ever unsheathed which consumes
the scabbard that would contain it."
Percy Bysshe Shelley

1
Like Heimdall in legend does his time spend
to protect the portal / Bifröst in Agard,
my Lord, I stand in the gate it to guard
and for this I do see from You no end,

while this is hard and I do not pretend,
the enemy and allies do us bombard
with fiction and fact that is not barred,
try people and leaders to its will to bend.

I wish I could be all-seeing and hearing,
have a weapon like Hofund but I have words,
with which I want always people to inspire
but constantly illness and wars are nearing,
like mindless sheep people follow in their herds
while around me life is a challenge and dire.
2
While all around me life is a challenge and dire,
this prayer may be seen as a kind of blasphemy.
I use mythology, ask You for the fire,
You know me and everything that is to be.

Like Ragnarok we are nearing the end of days,
where many men live only for their own
wellbeing, money, pride and pleasure and ways
and You and Your love are not by them known.

Supernatural beings do You betray and slander
and against this only with You I can win,
while Lucifer comes as a global commander,
inspires people to revel in their evil and sin:

for every sin and iniquity I ask forgiveness,
help me to stand in a world as battered as this.
