The Killing Poem by Jo Lynn Ehnes

The Killing

Rating: 5.0

I don't recall

deep in
my mind
there's a memory

a child
reaches out
for love
for warmth
begging me

let me live

I know I hushed that child

in that cold-blood
moment
I lost my way

traveled down
a trail of fire
straight
to the pit of hell

years of torment
led me
to another
drastic deed

I had to do it
 pull the plug

I killed his wife
that day

 no one cared
or missed her

she didn't beg me
spare my life
 didn't ask
for more time

just smiled
and closed her eyes

no longer bound
in hell's domain
she walks
through fields of roses
protected from the thorns

with her is the child
hand in hand
together
healed

we're one
