The Lady Who Endures Poem by Timothy Long

The Lady Who Endures

She sits in the shadows,
In a lone, empty room,
Heart heavy and hollow,
Listening to the blues croon.

Her soul aches and cries,
For a love she cannot hold,
A love that never dies,
But leaves her feeling cold.

They say women cannot love,
The way a man can,
But she knows that's not enough,
For her heart has a different plan.

She loves with all she's got,
Never holding back,
But love is all she's sought,
And in return, she lacks.

She carries the weight,
Of a love that remains unreturned,
Her heart forever in a constant state,
Of being burned and burned.

But even in the darkness,
She finds a glimmer of light,
For even in this harshness,
Her love still shines bright.

Though she may not love like a man,
Her love is just as pure,
For she is a woman,
And that's enough to endure.

So let the blues keep playing,
As she finds solace in their sound,
For her heart may be aching,
But her love will still be found.
