I won't regret the day you leave,
You almost made me swoon!
Heatwaves are bound to make me grieve,
And so, farewell to June!
My skin is blood red from the heat,
And sleep was my escape.
This thirtieth is bittersweet,
Yet it's my winning tape!
I can't say that I've run the race,
It was a marathon.
Yet I endured the nights and days,
Relieved you'd soon be gone!
July is coming! Oh, so fast!
Tomorrow's oh so near!
That's when I'll say, 'It's come at last! '
I can't wait till it's here!
Perhaps I'll mow the lawn again,
No promises for now!
If it gets cooler, maybe then
I'll face that chore somehow.
A gentle breeze upon my skin,
That's bound to ease that task.
So when it's time, Lord, to begin,
Is that too much to ask! ?
Denis Martindale.30th of June 2026.
Here is a Summer poem by the Poemhunter poet Denis Martindale. The title is THE LAST DAY OF JUNE! The poem is about this June being so difficult because of one hot day after another. It was a matter of perseverance to get to the 30th of June. Sometimes survival was based on going to sleep for longer than usual. I enjoyed some cool strawberry milkshakes and a few ice lollies. Later in the day, a quick Pot Noodle was better than having the oven on to heat a ready meal. I even bought a few extra T-shirts and some soft moccasins to wear. So this month wasn't all bad after all.
