The Last Phone Call Poem by The Poet Darkling

The Last Phone Call

I see you calling, but I don't pick up…
What? Are you surprised by my reaction?
Just how long did you expect it to last
With you giving me no satisfaction?

I gave and gave and gave to you,
Gave up everything, including my pride
Now I have absolutely nothing left
I have nowhere to go, nowhere to hide

But still you are calling, expecting more
And still breaking my heart with every ring
Is this what you want, to see me in pain?
Or do you expect one last, final fling?

It doesn't matter, whichever it is
I know I can't answer the ringing phone
I have to resist, I shouldn't give in
‘Cuz with or without you, I'm still alone
