The Last Soldier Poem by Randy McClave

The Last Soldier

I said the last prayer
No one else was there,
More truthful if I had said
Everyone else was dead.
I had stood with my friends
Until their ends,
As those men way over there
Had the same feelings and care.
It was either us or them
Or maybe was it they or him,
We decided who was to live
We didn't care who had the most to give.
It wasn't preformed in fun
But, I fired the last gun,
I say this with a sad composure
I was the last soldier.
