The Leaves Have Fallen Poem by Leslie Alexis

The Leaves Have Fallen

The burden was too much for them to bear.
After holding on through the hell
they fell under the weight of heaven's tears
and made a beautiful carpet for all to see,
But we all thought it was a pity
that they should fall before their moon.
We knew it was coming, but not so soon.
Now, like fairies shot from the sky, they lie
their pretty dresses fading as they're trodden
Upon by man and beasts of rubber and steel.
They're shoved into the grooves of the wheel
That turns and turns, but they will return
and because I know they will, I smile.
