The Letter Poem by Paul Warren

The Letter

I sat down to write this for you
To tell your story all the way through
I struggled with the words
Each line a truth to be heard

Those were the days when we were together
In sunshine or rain in all types of whether
And I could rely on you
Backing me up all the day through

There were days that stood out
With belly laughs and aching sides about
And the days when I needed a friend
You stood with me until the end

What is left to say
Except as a friend and mate you'll stay
And when my last day is near
I will see you again is clear.
