The Lighthouse Poem by Robert Dummett

The Lighthouse

Journeyed to the Lighthouse in the north
where lovers strip at night to fool each other.
Saw graffiti on the door:
Roper raped her here before.
Tony said he could now tell
That several times he rang her bell.

Trees there were etched like backs of slaves
with names of traders in this entourage
of coupled nights.
listened to lynching waves
choking rocky coves
with thundering cries of vengeance.
Saw their spume ejaculate upon the shale
in frothing reprimand.
Never-missing pelicans, dive bombing at the bubble,
reminded more of the good shot adding to his score.
