The Little Dog And The Ball Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

The Little Dog And The Ball

Rating: 4.0

The dog dashes through the hall
like a flash, feet slipping the floor and all
Her ears flopping, head cropping forward
as she intently chases the bouncing ball
a third her size becasue she's so small

She tilts her head to match the ball
puts on her front brakes
and slides to a halt before she reaches the wall
I try to call
But she's so focused on that ball

She bites it in her mouth
her teeth showing, she's exited and proud
her tail is pointing up and wagging so loud
as if she's so happy
She's prancing on some cloud

I call her to me
but she shys away
this is the way she likes to play
like a game of keep-away
she looks forward to every night and day

She's just a little thing
8 pounds, counting everything
but she's got the heart of an angel
and I think she is, just minus the wings
but a little spriit of joy she brings

Later she jumps up on the couch
and hesitates as if I'm some grouch
and slowly steps upon my lap
closes her little eyes and lays there
her little heart beating as she takes a nap
