The Lynched Love! Poem by Vadakkumpurath Ramesan

The Lynched Love!

Rating: 2.0

The exasperated cauples
Fled from the matrimonial abode
When the village chased them
With sticks and stones
To punish them to break
The caste barriers in making love!

They lost the fragrance of the Jasmine
They lost the matrimonial attire
They sweat and legs swelled
And moved in acceleration
That left them panting
And led them to exhaustion
That led them to the trial ramp of the mob!

The groom loved not the caste
Not the lowered dignity of the bride
But the feudals of the village
Of snake-charmers, bullocks
The green fields that flourish
With the sweat of the dark-men
Summoned a summary trial!

The groom entered her heart
To flourish and flower a spring
To invite her to his life
To live in love as birds
As animals, as bees, as butterflies!
He challenged the rusting rules
That date back the 'smrithis'
That rest on the stone-age
With the verdict of the new world
But the village of the dark ages
Handed down the punishment of death!

The village with the sticks and stones
In a hysterics rush moved
To execute the rule of the village
Mercilessly and run after the grooms
As a beast rushing after a prey
That fell finally to the beast
And the village ravaged with rampage
Went on to execute its Judgment
To kill the innocent love birds
And lynched the love with no mercy!
