The Man Poem by Khaleel Steir

The Man

As I look out into the applauding crowd,
The roar of the clapping is overwhelming
I struggle to force my body to walk
Its as if I'm walking through wet cement

I swear this was easier than I would've thought
The spotlight is on me and I feel like a vampire in the sun
Why am I so scared when I deserve this?
I made it here, and I'll be damned if I walk away from this empty handed.

The applause seems so much louder than it really is.
Don't panic, Oh My God, DON'T PANIC.
The man shakes my hand and hands me a diploma
YES! This man has finally graduated. Good, now I can sit down.
