The Matches Poem by Leslie Montano

The Matches

The match in your hand
I knew
You held it firmly
Close to your heart
But once looked upon me, it was lit
Your flame grew
Looking to me in fear
Sighing, I shook me head
And blew it out
Not knowing that was your only match
Until I heard the sobs
I held out my arms for sympathy
But you ran away
Turning around in shame to look into another's eyes
And there match lit
