The Mind Thief Poem by Richard Netherland Cook

The Mind Thief

The Mind Thief

Like a vine that slowly creeps
Into a crevice in cragged stone,
The Mind Thief robs the unwilling mind
Of all the memories it has ever known.

Slowly and painfully the thief envades
Where the joys of life all play,
And quietly leaves its' deadly trail
Stealing moments from each day.

Now fading into the dark of night
The thief imposes his will.
The mind once rich and full of life
Is now so quiet and still.

Only a shadow of what used to be,
Now fades to a living hell.
What was before, a vibrant mind,
Is now an empty shell.

The fire that once burned brightly,
Its' embers now are gone.
Imprisoned in the mind it has stolen,
The Mind Thief sits alone.
