The New 'F' Word, Effort! Poem by Chuy Amante

The New 'F' Word, Effort!

lucky was I to work next to
my budding teen, thru and thru

He sits most days and plays those games,
not much of a worker but whose naming names?

5 hours in he started to fail
that little wimp too soft and frail

He couldn't stick with a task long term
10 minutes paying bird, he wanted worm

when I told him this job would take days
he passed out his eyes were glazed

then I heard in my head my ole' dad
and that thing that he always said,

'Anything worthwhile requires EFFORT'
a new word my kid wants to forget

'I want it all, and I want it now'
makes bad people, but makes good cows

I can work a kid
under the table
I Put forth EFFORT,
as we are all able

thanks dad, I learned it well
I'm being good, not going to hell

working my arse off
when I do
hoping to teach kids
the lessons from you

'Anything worthwhile requires EFFORT! '
