The Night Is Not The Night Yet/The Time On Every Distant Planet Poem by Shalom Freedman

The Night Is Not The Night Yet/The Time On Every Distant Planet

The night is not the night yet
The time on every distant planet
Is unknown by me
Whether they are out there dreaming or observing us
I do not know-

I am only here now
We are only here now
On this small earth
Which is of course so huge and various to me

How small my life and space and time are
Waiting for night
And going down to the corner to exercise
Or up the hill to shul to pray

All all is small
And I am smaller than all
And we are not much in these great times and distances

But what we we are
Creatures of day and night
Believing our own little home
is what the Universe is.

Is that so bad? Our home is a universe.+++10
