The Night Is Wet And Windy Poem by Francis Duggan

The Night Is Wet And Windy

The night is wet and windy in the quiet Countrytown
And along the seemingly deserted streets few cars pass up and down
And flood waters can be heard gurgling in the town's stormwater drain
And house gutterings are rattling in the driving wind and rain
The night is wet and the heavy wind is sounding rather shrill
And the quiet streets are deserted in the old town by the hill
And the pub is closed and all is quiet in the hour before midnight
And the windblown branches make huge swaying dark shadows in the glare of the street light,
The night is wet and the gale force wind goes howling down the street
And it makes a heavy rattling noise in every object it does meet
On the shop roofs and Townhouses it makes a lot of noise
As it blows under the house eaves and the gutterings and attacks the galvanize
And tomorrow some local residents will wake only to find
Their roofs and gutterings damaged from the overnight gale force wind.
