You were broad like the ocean,
wide like the desert,
and everywhere I looked,
was a mirage of you,
a waving hand, a voice,
like a breaking wave,
plucking the footprints
scattered across the beach
like leaves fallen from a tree,
and you gathered them
in the abyss of your heart,
much like a woman who loves the past
because it's the only thing she ever lost,
and I wake up smiling, and scribble you first,
lost in verbs...rubbing my eyes...
your kiss returns, an undecided wave,
crushing against my cheek, finding my lips,
until the lipstick is gone,
sailing on my tongue, cascading down my throat,
like an avalanche, sprinting towards
my frightened heart.
