The 50 cent notebook
With its shiny green cover,
And college ruled paper,
Brought me more relief
Than any of the other
So called “remedies”
(I use that word lightly)
That bottle of anti-depressants,
Or 5 ounce flask of Jack Daniels whiskey,
Even the blade that cut so deeply
Accomplished nothing that lasted permanently.
Only a temporary high
Gone as soon as I wound myself up
And let myself cry
But that notebook
With it's alluring blank lines
And smooth perfect paper
Was an opportunity
To be free
From the uncertainty
That is life
A moving and revealing insight into Linley B. Again, there's a mature restraint on display here which lets the emotion show through clearly. You've kept it light but poignant at the same time. That isn't achieved easily. This is impressive writing Lin! jim
