The Notorious Musician Poem by Kaki Venugopala Rao

The Notorious Musician

Rating: 5.0

THE NOTORIOUS MUSICIAN

I do not know
Whether it is he or she,
But every time I lie
On bed to sleep
In day and at night,
It comes sprinting to me
So punctually,
Most unwelcome guest
To our house,
It keeps orbiting around me
So swiftly,
Halts hanging about
My ears in air
So deftly
Singing ceaselessly,
It comes closer
Almost into my ears,
Disgusted and irritated
At its horrible singing,
I flail my hand at it,
It just moves away
From my ears
Andmy flailing hand,
Then, it rushes back
To my ears,
Keeps singing more incessantly
With vengeance,
With my eyes still
Shut in sleep,
My hand flailing
Vigorously at it,
Maybe, angered
At my indifference
To its singing spree,
It begins pinching
My ears, shoulders,
Hands, legs fiercely,
Disturbed, half-awake,
Tossing over my bed restlessly,
I keep my one hand,
Rubbing the pinched parts
Of my body,
Another hand flailing
Wildly at the notorious musician,
All of a sudden,
Singing and pinching halted,
Surprised, I wake up
And look for the raucous singer
And the naggingpincher,
My searching eyes spot
On my bed,
A fat mosquito
Lying crushed,
I pity the unwelcome musician
That embraced doom,
Singing into my reluctant ears.
