............
Last night I saw a Nuthin'
As it wandered near the creek.
Perhaps it found me rather dull,
But I found it unique.
It moved under leaves of merriweather
And through ancient cobblestone,
It fancied the narrow waters edge
Undisturbed and quite alone.
I followed from a step behind
As it explored the ivy forest floor,
And tasted the cool water
That slowly waved ashore.
It climbed the fragile pudding stone,
That ended near the wall,
And sent the cool water of the creek
Into a raging fall.
Unafraid and unconcerned
I was anywhere about.
It tip-toed under leaves of grass
And through the bobble sprout.
Nuthin's rarely hang about
When they're aware someone is nigh.
Yet this Nuthin knew my silent steps
As I ambled clumsily by,
'Twas an oddish speckled bit of life,
The shade of old bamboo,
That whisped the green-gold grass so blue,
Then wandered cleverly under a curly que.
Oh, how it moved, so slow, so swift,
Aware of every whisker jack.
Kept close to the whispering waters edge,
Well sheltered in the wild sedge.
As darkness enveloped the trees,
And fireflies danced the gentle breeze,
I realized to my great dismay
I had lost myself within this gray.
The water made no gentle rush,
As crickets serenaded this even hush,
And I looked ahead, and gazed behind
Uncertain what at last I'd find.
When the Nuthin' stopped and turned about,
And with a brilliant flash was gone.
Leaving but an emerald glow
Upon the moss draped, ivy lawn.
